Lisbon surprises with its lovely atmosphere and warm welcome. Heading there soon? (that’s a greeeeaaaaat idea!) Here’s some amazing things you can do while in Lisbon!
1. Visit Mercado da Ribeira market
Mercado da Ribeira is one of the best things Lisbon has to offer. Generally, visiting local markets in every city is a unique cultural experience. The market in Lisbon has a large food court where you can taste some amazing stuff – seafood, Portuguese cuisine, croquettes (don’t miss the cuttlefish ink croquette 😉 and many more.
2. Ride tram N28
You are probably familiar with the symbol of Lisbon – the old yellow trams. The cool thing about those trams is that they’re not in a museum, they are used as a public transport in Lisbon, and another cool thing is that one of them – Tram N28 covers the most iconic and old neighborhoods of Lisbon. So, don’t miss your chance to ride the historical tram and enjoy picturesque views from the window.
3. Visit Santa Justa Elevator
Take a hundred years old Santa Justa elevator to the rooftop and admire the stunning view from above.
4. Eat some amazing seafood at Cervejaria Ramiro
Well, this is a place where locals and tourists stay in the line to get a chair
and gain some weight. Generally the seafood in Portugal is great, and Cervejaria Ramiro is one of the best places to get that taste. Don’t expect exceptional service because it’s very busy, just concentrate on the food and enjoy!
5. Spend half day in Belém district
Belém is one of the most beautiful districts of Lisbon. You can get there by tram N15 from Praça da Figueira in about 20 minutes. There’s so much to do (and eat!) that you’ll probably need half a day to fully enjoy your time in Belém. Admire Jerónimos Monastery, eat Portuguese custard tart from Pastéis de Belém, visit Monument of the Discoveries, sit next to it and just enjoy the view.
6. Taste Portuguese wine
Portuguese wine… it’s incredibly good and incredibly cheap. Take a glass of wine and find a sweet spot to view the sunset.
7. Take a day trip to Sintra
Sintra – the most magical and colorful place in Portugal! This small town is located just near Lisbon and makes a perfect day trip from there. Visit Pena Palace and wonder the magnificent gardens around it. Enjoy the view from the top and feel the excitement of just being there. Last but not least – if you’re a sea food fan don’t miss a yummy dinner in Sintra! To read more about the place and see more pictures – click here.
8. Stroll in Alfama
Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon. What else can be more enjoyable than walking in its narrow streets and feeling that true Portuguese spirit – the hanging cloths from windows, the balconies with flowers, the old colorful doors and traditional ceramic walls of the buildings.
